10 Cool Things to do in the Lehigh Valley this Christmas

1.) 2014 Bethlehem Christmas Tree Lighting.

The City of Bethlehem’s tree lighting ceremony will illuminate your night with The Lehigh Valley Charter School for the Arts Choir, Santa’s official arrival, music, hot chocolate, cookies and Christmas PEEPS®. Head to Payrow Plaza on Nov. 28 from 4.30pm to witness the switch-on of the town’s Christmas tree and holiday lights. The ceremony is free and open to the public.

2.) Christmas City’s Holiday Spectacular at Pennsylvania Youth Theatre.

Pennsylvania Youth Theatre (PYT) tells the story of one little girl’s journey to find the true meaning of Christmas. The show’s cast is comprised of young student performers from PYT, student musicians from Moravian College and professional actors from the Lehigh Valley. Tickets are available online and range from $12 to $20.

3.) Northampton Community College’s Holiday Concert.

Join the NCC community chorus Bel Canto Dalle Stelle for Christmas carols and festive entertainment. Admission is a $5 donation to the chorus scholarship or a non-perishable food item.

4.) Lehigh Valley Style Holiday Pop-Up Shop.

Head to the style lounge to sip a mimosa while perusing through a collection of holiday gifts from local businesses including Blink Optical Boutique, Bucks County Gardens, Design by PLACE, J Morgan Salon & Home, Susan Bella Jewelry, Versant and many more. Roar and The Hamilton Kitchen will be on hand for light bites. Tickets are $10.

5.) Koziar’s Christmas Village.

Now in their 67th year, the award-winning Koziar’s Christmas Village boasts an indoor and outdoor lighted display, a miniature town, handmade train platform and Santa’s toy shop.

6.)Winter Light Spectacular at Lehigh Valley Zoo Presented by Christmas Décor.

This festive season, the Lehigh Valley Zoo is illuminated by thousands of fairy lights and Christmas displays. Climb into a giant snow globe, toast marshmallows on an open fire pit and take the children to visit Santa, The Grinch, Elsa and Olaf. Adult tickets are $14, child tickets are $8.

7.) Christmas City Stroll – Candlelight Walking Tour.

The backdrop of this tour includes colonial architecture and two National Historic Landmarks (the 1741 Gemeinhaus and the Bethlehem Waterworks) to hear the story of the beginning of Bethlehem, told by a guide in traditional costume. Tickets are $12 for adults and $6 for children.

8.) Lights in the Parkway.

Friday Nov. 28 marks the opening of the 19th season of Lights in the Parkway, a local tradition, which includes over a mile of drive-through light tunnels, lighted trees and animated displays in Allentown’s Lehigh Parkway.

9.) The Miracle on South 13th Street.

Listed as one of Visit Philly’s Must See Holiday Attractions, the 1600 block of South 13th Street in South Philly has been a festive lights hotspot for more than 12 years, and seeing it is as easy as a drive through neighborhood.

10.) Christkindlmarkt Bethlehem.

The annual Christmas market is now in its 20th year, and the six-week 2014 festival will feature over 125 vendors a week, offering old-fashioned holiday gifts and food. Retailers include The Bacon Jams, ZuZu Confectionary, Black Velvet Jewelry and House of Morgan Pewter. Adult tickets are $9 and children’s tickets are $5.
