Northampton Community College has had a radio club for over 30 years. Currently standing at the helm of the sound of NCC is Demitrius Mullen.
“This is my passion project,” said Mullen, a Computer Security major from Allentown.
With a 24/7 online steam of random pre-recorded content and two live broadcasts a week, Mullen, President of the radio club, is a busy man.
“This semester we have 7 students involved, and we’re currently working on getting out to more students,” he said.
Mullen describes the current online steam as an “eclectic mix of showcasing everything we have, although the random shuffling feature means you can go directly from music to a documentary or an interview.”
“Right now we’re working on turning our 24/7 random stream into something where you can go and click through and choose exactly what to listen to, be that interviews or music,” he added.
WNCC stands as a platform of student expression, features include interviews with professors, students and a wide range of music from hip hop and country to jazz and rock.
The radio club meets at 11am on Tuesdays in room 139, Communications Hall.
Podcasts are available to listen to through iTunes by searching for WNCC. Alternatively, the online stream is accessible through the Northampton website under Campus Life or by downloading the Tune In app onto your smartphone.
WNCC also inhabits the Student Life Zone for live broadcasts, taking student requests for songs.
“I like people hearing what I have to say, I like being critiqued and pandering to our fans,” Mullen said.
