Spring Sing at NCC

The Lehigh Valley Youth Chorus will end their inaugural season at NCC with their spring concert in Lipkin Theatre on May 7 at 2:00 PM.

“We’re looking at this concert as a way to recognize and celebrate all of the special people who have helped us to become a success at NCC,” said the chorus’ founder and artistic director Kelley Atwood. “Some of those people have been involved with the program since we first started three years ago. They’ll be out in the audience or on stage with us. There will be a lot of love and support in the room that day.”

The concert titled “A ‘Friends’ and Family Concert” will open its doors at 1:30 p.m. Attendance is free, but attendees are encouraged to bring canned food items in support of a local food pantry.
“I think it’s a lovely way for the children to use their talents to give back to the community,” she said.
This concert has the added twist of celebrating the college’s 50th anniversary with songs from 1967 by The Beatles and Petula Clark.

The concert will also feature guest performances from Easton Area High School’s Alexandria Austin and Tyler Fitch. The duo will perform scenes from their school’s production of Cole Porter’s musical “Anything Goes.”

According to Atwood, the members of the chorus have grown and bonded during their time together.

“One aspect of the chorus that pleases me the most is that all of the children are so welcoming, supportive and accepting of one another,” she said. “They all share the same passion for singing and just want to make beautiful music.”
Atwood discussed the joys of working with the children.

“I feel very blessed this season. Our LVYC families have been so supportive and the children have great energy and enthusiasm. We work hard in rehearsal, but we also have a lot of fun and laughter each week.”

The chorus’ public relations director, Brian Atwood, talked about Kelley and the chorus’ accomplishments.

“This is something she’s long been passionate about and excels in,” he said. “She strives for excellence in what she does with this choir. The children are singing works by major composers as well as lighter pieces and world music. Her programming is creative and inspiring.”

“We’re hoping recruitment will continue to grow. We’ve been thrilled to be a part of the NCC family.”
